Heritage fair and vintage tractor day celebrates rural Buchan life

Aden Country Park in Mintlaw, Aberdeenshire, is to play host to an exciting range of events and activities at the forthcoming Rural Life Heritage Fair and Vintage Tractor Working Day.

The events are to take place on Sunday (September 29)from 10am to 4pm and look to celebrate the local culture and farming traditions unique to Aberdeenshire.

The Vintage Tractor activities will be held beside Hareshowe Farm, in Aden Country Park, and will offer a rare chance to see a splendid variety of vintage tractors ranging from the 1930s to the 1960s including: Massey Ferguson, John Deer, International, Ford, David Brown, Fordson, Ferguson, Leyland, Nuffield, McCormack, Gunsmith, Field Marshall, Ursus, Lister, Case, Zetor and many more.

The tractors will both display and demonstrate how ploughing, harrowing, cultivating, ridging, seeding, rolling, scarifying and shimming were carried out.

“Weather permitting, we also hope to have the opportunity to demonstrate one of the major tasks of the Buchan farmer’s year, threshing.Rural Life Heritage Fair aspects will be held in both the courtyard area and within the award winning Aberdeenshire Farming Museum.

“ Activities will include a selection of traditional music and performance, craft demonstrations, family history, rural life photographic exhibition, archive film footage, farmers market, rare breed animals, access to the Aberdeenshire Farming Museum and Hareshowe Farm, along with a range of heritage related displays, stalls, and activities that illustrate what life was like for country people in the past and how it has shaped Aberdeenshire’s countryside today.

Other activities happening in the park include a bouncy castle; the very popular climbing wall and body zorbing; make your own scarecrow workshop; and a variety of farmer’s market stalls; and of course the excellent Symposium café and Aden Craft & Gift Shop.

The Rural Life Heritage Fair has been funded by the Aberdeenshire Council ‘Be Part of the Picture’ placemaking project designed to showcase the region as a place of beauty, quality and innovation, using a range of creative engagement projects to explore all that Aberdeenshire, as a distinctive area in its own right, has to offer.
