The cast of Ellon's pantomime 'Aladdin' are preparing for their upcoming performances

The Ellon Parish Church Drama Club are busy rehearsing for this year’s pantomime ‘Aladdin’.

Performances will be held at the Kirk Centre in Ellon from Saturday 1 to Tuesday 4 December.

This year Clare McLean returns in the role of Director, charged with getting the cast into shape after the long summer break.

Clare has also written the script, embellishing the traditional story as usual with local quips, jokes and a bit o’ Doric.

Semi-retired school music teacher, Colin Simpson, is looking forward to taking on the challenge of being Pantomime Musical Director for the first time.

The role of Aladdin will be played by fun-loving Fiona Cochrane who played Jack in last year’s show.

Newcomer Helen Conner will play Aladdin’s love interest, Princess Jasmine.

Helen has played in several pantomimes at Culsalmond near Insch and looks forward to performing in her first major role.

No pantomime would be complete without a Dame and a Baddy – played this year by Clive Moss as Widow Twankey and Gordon McCombie as Abanazar - will she be after his money?

Many well-known faces plus new members make up the rest of the cast who, with their comedy acting and singing will give an audience of all ages, a couple of hours of fun and laughter in the traditional spirit of Christmas pantomime.

Tickets are priced at £6 for adults and £4 for children up to Primary 7, and are on sale from the “On The Square” Ellon Parish Church Coffee Shop on Station Road from 10am to 4pm on Tuesdays to Saturdays.

There are also available from members of the cast or at panto rehearsals on Wednesday evenings from 7.45pm in Slains Hall at the Kirk Centre.
