It may still be September, but the Haddo Voices choirs have already started rehearsing for Christmas concerts.
There are two choirs rehearsing this term - the Haddo Children’s Voices for boys and girls in P1 and upwards, and the Haddo Boys and Girls Voices, who are to be merged.
This choir is for boys and girls aged P6 and upwards, although singers P6 and P7 can choose to join either choir or even both.
The children’s choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 6.15-7pm at Ellon Kirk Centre and are guided by director Alice Dennis and soprano Louise McGregor.
The Boys and Girls Voices rehearse on a Tuesday night at 7.15-8pm in Ellon Parish Church, again with Alice and Louise and also Jerry Dennis on piano. There are no auditions to join either of the choirs - everyone is welcome.
Alice said: “There’s nothing nicer than young voices singing at Christmas, but to get them all singing in perfect harmony takes weeks of practice and so they are starting back now, and new members are most welcome.”
It costs £30 for the whole year to join (no extra charge to join more than one choir), with discounts for siblings. Included in the fee are three private singing lessons a year.
This year some young singers from the Voices choirs will be needed to perform in Puccin’s opera ‘La Boheme’ at Haddo House in April - a unique chance for youngsters to get switched on to this the most exciting of all performance art, working alongside professionals and the Haddo House Choral & Operatic Society.
Some keen youngsters will also get to sing in the ever-popular HHCOS carol concerts this Christmas (December 7-15) joining a specially prepared ensemble.
This group starts rehearsals on a Monday night after the October break and are usually invited after doing very well in the main choirs.
