AN ELLON Academy pupil has his sights set on stardom, after being accepted to study with Youth Music Theatre UK.
Academy pupil Liam Christie will travel to London to join Terry Pratchet’s Soul Music, which is a musical theatre course being held over August. While there, Liam will learn about aspects of writing, choreography, composition and performing.
The 17 year old, who was previously heavily involved in ‘Dramatize’ at St Mary-on-the-Rock, and the school drama club, plans to study an HNC in the art at college, and will be assisting at the Lemon Tree on the production of ‘Fleeto’.
The youngster is raising his own sponsorship to fund the experience, which will cost in the region of £1500. The course in the Wilde Theatre will run from August 12-25.
Liam said: “I audtioned a couple of years ago and nothing came of it so I left it for a year. I’m absolutely delighted to be accepted and am really looking forward to the course.”
Proud mum Shirley added: “Liam auditioned in January to become part of the YMT - 60ish other people also auditioned that day, and nationwide around 1200, so you can imagine how excited he was to actually get a chance to go to Braknell along with about 30 other youngsters.”
Liam has organised fundraising quiz sheets and is having a Scottish night in the Station Hotel, Ellon, on June 7 to which everyone is welcome.
