for Ellon primary schools

Ellon pupils are in for a treat this summer as it has been confirmed that a top theatre company will be making their way to the town next month.

The Hopscotch Theatre Company will perform for the three main schools in the town at The Victoria Hall ahead of their summer break.

The music-filled, humorous ‘Colin’s Commonhealth Games’ will entertain pupils in the popular hall on Thursday, June 19.

Victoria Hall’s Management Committee Drama Champion, Mairi Davidson has spent the last three months discussing proposals to stage a live drama show at the end-of-term for pupils with sponsors North East Arts Touring (NEAT), the Hopscotch Theatre company and Ellon’s three primary schools.

The company are currently touring their 100th production to 100 schools across Scotland and Ellon has been fitted into their schedule thanks to Ellon Academy pupil, Mairi’s hard work,

Mairi said: “I am really pleased with the response from all three Ellon Primary schools.

“Their support means that pupils can enjoy and end of term live theatre who may not have yet experienced live drama before and I am glad we have a children’s show that is going to educate and entertain so many on the day.”

The show will be able to accommodate for all the pupils plus their adult minders. Two 55 minute performances will be held to around an audience of around 200 per show.

Hopscotch Theatre Company, based in Glasgow, have spent the last 25 years, staging educating and entertaining shows for pupils across Scotland.

The current show ‘Colin’s Commonhealth Games’ explores the story of teenager, Colin who leads an unhealthy lifestyle but when he is told that the Commonwealth Games will be coming to Scotland he believes that the games are irrelevant to him.
